Full course description

Description

The purpose of this course is to provide registered nurses and forensic nurses the education to recognize the subtle signs of IPV and appropriately intervene to ensure safety for those involved. Many patients may not speak out right away about experiencing IPV during pregnancy, but if we can equip these nurses with information, they can intervene and assist these patients.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, the learner will be able to:

  • Highlight common indicators of intimate partner violence (IPV)
  • Outline risk factors for IPV in pregnancy
  • Describe Texas laws regarding reporting of suspected IPV
  • Relate possible health outcomes for the mother and child related to IPV
  • Determine changes to forensic nursing practice when working with a patient who has experienced IPV during pregnancy
