Purpose: The purpose of this experiential learning session is to provide a structured learning environment for the new and already practicing Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner to become comfortable with interacting with a patient who has experienced sexual assault. The participant will learn to conduct a speculum insertion and detailed anogenital assessment. In addition, the attendee will be able to conduct multiple simulated sexual assault examinations with evidence collection in a controlled, safe environment. Attendees must either have attended a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Education Course for Adults and Adolescents or an already practicing SANE who would like extra training. Over the 2 ½ days, the participant will complete requirements for speculum insertion and simulated exams for the Texas SANE certification.
